There is a taxi stop just outside the airport terminal building. There´s usually plenty available, but if not you can call one using the free phone at the information desk, or ask the staff to call one for you. They speak English and they have a list of prices available.

The taxis that come to Girona airport are based in a village 5 minutes away from the airport.

Each kilometre is charged at 1.12 euros, but please note that there may be extra charges (please see below for more details). Here is a list of the approximate rates charged between Girona Airport and popular destinations in Catalonia and beyond:.

Extra charges for Girona Airport taxis

The fixed rate per kilometre is now 1.12 euros (including VAT), regardless of how many people are travelling. The taxis come from a village 5 minutes from the airport, but if you order one from the city centre, your journey will cost 3-5 euros more.

Other extra charges (including VAT) are as follows:

14.72 euros for each hour the taxi has to wait for you.

3.68 euros for every 15 minutes the taxi has to wait.

3.15 euros for night service between 9pm and 7am Monday to Friday. 3.15 on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.

1.45 euros for any suitcase or equipment measuring more than 55x35x35cm.

If you take the taxi from Girona airport to Barcelona, the ride will cost you from 110 to 130 euros, depending on your final destination.

Barcelona Taxis

Barcelona taxis are readily available and charge reasonable rates, making them an affordable alternative to public transport. They are all black and yellow, and will display a green light if available and a yellow light if occupied. The rates are displayed on a meter at the front of the cab. They charge an extra euro if you have luggage, but they\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'ll do the heavy lifting for you. Some of their extra charges are quite steep; they charge an additional 4 euros after midnight, and on feast days.  Tips are not required, but they are appreciated. A 5-10% tip is sufficient. For getting around the Barri Gotic and city centre, we advise you to use other forms of transport or walk as the roads can get very congested, and many are pedestrianised.

The rates from Barcelona taxis, in force since 13/12/2008, are the following:

Minimum fare (2009): 2 euros

Price/km (2009): 0,86 euros from 8.00 am to 20.00 pm weekdays, and 1,10 euros from 20.00 pm to 8.00 am weekday and weekend.

If your luggage is not bigger than 55x35x55 cm, then you have no extra charge to the regular price, and 1 euro extra for the big luggage.

Taxis from Estació del Nord in Barcelona

Be aware with taxis taken from Estació del Nord, when you arrive with the bus from Girona airport to Barcelona bus station. Normally there are no problems with taxi drivers around the city, but the most dishonest ones are operating by this station.

The normal cost for a ride to Barcelona center from estació del Nord is around 6 to 8 euros, including suplement for large size baggage or night fee. DO NOT pay more than 10 euros for any trip around Barcelona from Estació del Nord.

To avoid any problems with your taxi, check if there is a green light, and the light must be turned off when you get into the car. Be aware that the \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"taximetro\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" is turned on when you start the ride, with a starting price of maximum 2 euros during the day and night during 2009.

Second, give to the driver your address and tell him you will NOT PAY MORE THAN 10 euros for the ride.

If you get cheated by a taxi driver, you should do the following:

1. Ask for the receipt to the taxi driver with his license number, picking up point address and time, drop off address and time, and total cost with VAT included.
2. Go to your hotel reception to ask for help.
3. To file a complaint or report, the Metropolitan Taxi Institute (IMT) will require that the user provide specific information on the taxi in which the service object of the complaint was given.

At the end of a route, ask the taxi driver for a receipt with the following information and make sure the following information is on your receipt: taxi driver information, the license number, national tax identification number, the vehicle plate number, the price of the route, the date of service, the driver’s signature.

How to file a complaint with a cab driver cheating you in Barcelona?

To file a complaint or report on the Barcelona taxi service in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona, follow the steps below:

1. Fill in the corresponding form, which you will find in the submenu.

2. Print and sign two copies of the form.

3. Submit the duly completed and signed form to the registry of the Metropolitan Taxi Institute, either personally or by post, preferably certified post, addressed to the Institut Metropolità del Taxi, Carrer 62 núm. 18 - Zona Franca - 08040 Barcelona.

Lost and found for Barcelona taxis

If you loose any object during your taxi ride in Barcelona, there is a Lost and Found Service, telephone number is 902 101 564, from 8.00 am to 20.00 pm (closed on weekend and holidays). What can you do here?

It is a telephone service that the IMT makes available to taxi drivers and users to facilitate the notification of an object that is lost or found in a taxi vehicle, and is not a place to leave or pick up a lost or found object.
